'Bosz babes' Ajax take cut-price route to Europa League final

'Bosz babes' Ajax take cut-price route to Europa League final

It has been 21 years - the 1996 Champions League final - since Ajax was within one win of capturing a European trophy.

Substitute Rachid Ghezzal nodded in a heavily-deflected third late on as Ajax played the final minutes with ten men after Dutch worldwide Nick Viergever received a second booking.

Ajax winger Amin Younes fed the on-rushing Dolberg and he showed coolness beyond his ears to dink over Lyon keeper Anthony Lopes.

Matters were made worse for Viergever when he picked up a second yellow card moments later, but the undermanned visitors clung on for a 5-4 aggregate triumph amid sustained late pressure from Lyon to set up a final against Manchester United on May 24.

Ajax did not create any great chances in the second period - in fact, Lyon came incredibly close to forcing extra-time when Maxwel Cornet's shot from close range was knocked wide by Onana.

Lyon coach Bruno Genesio believes the return of Alexandre Lacazette can help his side stage a miraculous recovery and book their place in the Europa League final.

Ajax's Davy Klaassen celebrates reaching the final as Lyon's Corentin Tolisso, right, .is on the pitch after the second leg semi final soccer match between Olympique Lyon and Ajax in the Stade de Lyon, Decines, France, Thursday, May 11, 2017. "It is a victory for football". But they were on the brink of getting eliminated after a poor display in the second leg. Team Ajax hot back in the race for the throne in Eredivisie with a demolishing 4-0 win over the rock-bottomed Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday.

Dolberg has already talked down a move to Manchester United and Manchester City, but there could be further interest from elsewhere during the summer for a player contracted to Ajax until 2021.

"Now we'll see if we can really make history". We need to make progress in this area. We were anxious Ajax would pull away after the first leg but instead they got their hardest game in this season's competition.
