Rupert Murdoch 'not worried' about Fox sexual harassment allegations

As Ofcom explores whether Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox should be allowed to press on with its planned takeover of Sky, we thought the company might agree to an interview with the BBC.

Wendy Walsh, who was once a regular guest on Fox News, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the deal would allow Fox to bring a culture of sexual and racial harassment to the United Kingdom.

"Fox News is getting record ratings... so I'm not anxious at all", Murdoch told the BBC on Monday.

Speaking outside the regulator on Monday evening, Bloom said: "In the meeting that just ended, I told Ofcom about the epidemic of sexual harassment and retaliation and allegations of racism rampant inside the Murdoch media empire in the US". However, Murdoch has a point about the network's ratings as FNC finished April as the most-watched channel in all of cable.

"Nothing's Happening at Fox News", snapped Murdoch. TNT's NBA-playoff heavy schedule finished second, averaging 1.8 million viewers between 8-11 p.m. MSNBC, HGTV and ESPN round out the top five. She claimed she was sacked in retaliation for reaching out to Paul Weiss attorney Michele Hirshman about the alleged mistreatment, a charge that Fox News immediately denied. But the takeover is politically sensitive in Britain where a previous attempt to take full control of Sky in 2011 was derailed by a phone hacking scandal at one of Murdoch's British newspapers, revealing close ties between politicians, police and the media.

The letter detailed allegations of "gender and racial discrimination, harassment and retaliation" going back eight years at Fox, and said executives at the media company attempted to "intimidate and silence victims of discrimination and force them to litigate their claims in confidential arbitrations in order to prevent the public from learning about its unlawful conduct".

Walsh has alleged that O'Reilly broke a promise to get her a job at Fox News because she rejected his advances. Nothing, okay?' Murdoch told a BBC reporter on Monday.

The company says its recent actions "demonstrate its clear commitment to providing a positive, safe and inclusive workplace free of harassment and discrimination".

"It's phone-hacking part two". It was against that backdrop that Bill Shine, who had been with the company since its founding in 1996, resigned as co-president.

"I think it's very important that we realize that people are typically innocent until proven guilty so every allegation that's made around 21st Century Fox is not, in fact, fact", she said.

A spokesman for 21st Century Fox spokesman said management had taken decisive action to address reports of sexual harassment and workplace issues at Fox News.

All of the complaints targeted Judith Slater, the company's comptroller Fox News fired in late February, and accused her of racial harassment.

Ofcom is now reviewing whether or not to approve Fox's purchase of Sky, in which it already holds a 39% stake.

Both Sky and Fox are controlled by businessman Rupert Murdoch, who also owns the Times and the Sun newspapers.
