White House Fires First Female Chief Usher

Reid, also the second African American to be chief usher, joined the White House in 2011, under President Obama.

"We are very grateful for her service and wish her the very best", one White House official said.

The chief usher works as the general manager of the building, overseeing the vast staff of butlers, maids, chefs, and others who keep the iconic building running.

While Sanders said it wasn't uncommon for staffs to transition between administrations, chief ushers typically hold their positions for longer tenures and through different presidencies.

"She is no longer employed here at the White House".

The chief usher is tasked with supervising all activities related to the White House residence.

Trump wasn't at the White House on Friday when staff were informed of the firing.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Angella Reid departed on good terms, Fox News reports.

Well, at least she no longer has to worry about Trump trying to turn everything in the residence a lurid gold color. Reid followed Admiral Stephen W. Rochon, the first black usher, after he left for a position at the Department of Homeland Security. "She worked for years in top management in hotels".

The last one to get the boot was Chris Emery, who was canned by Bill and Hillary Clinton in March 1994 in a bout of paranoia after they learned he had spoken on the phone with former first lady Barbara Bush after the Clintons took office. Reid was allegedly close to both Barack and Michelle Obama. "She is definitely professional but you're not going to please everybody". This is a job that usually survives administrations.

"The Trump administration seems anxious about Obama's spies, and there may have been a feeling that she wasn't on page with the Trumpians", presidential historian Douglas Brinkley told the Post. "There was more of an expectation that there are certain things that come with the White House".
