National Weather Services gathers crowd for storm spotter training

Source WLBT

The first front is expected to move across Arkansas this afternoon and this evening, delivering thunderstorms and wind gusts of up to 6o miles per hour, said meteorologist Brian Smith of the National Weather Service in North Little Rock.

Breezy to windy conditions along with clouds and higher humidity will return to Acadiana Friday into Saturday along with the risk of a few scattered showers (20% and 30-40% respectively).

The heat index, or "feels like" temperature, may reach the mid to upper 90s on Friday.

Any discrete cells that can develop ahead of the main cold front will likely occur late Saturday evening (around 9p). Gusty northwest winds are expected behind the front.

Forecasters expect the storms to lose some of their punch as they advance eastward into the overnight hours.

A front will stall then slowly move north as a spring storm chugs northeast starting Friday night and provides the focus for rounds of showers and thunderstorms into Monday morning.

We have a slight risk for severe storms this evening.

A potent weather system may produce severe thunderstorms potentially containing large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes in the Plains and Mississippi Valley Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Also, heavy rainfall is anticipated with the coming storm systems and is expected through the weekend.

Highs throughout the weekend will be in the lower to mid 80s with lows in the 50s and 60s.

Storms should exit nearly the entire area by early evening, with brief clearing to follow and then a return of low clouds by Friday morning. Should that happen, that storm will likely become severe with all types of severe weather possible. Rain and thunderstorm chance is on the increase the later into Saturday we go.

The rain will come to an end on Sunday with drier weather for most of next week. We will keep you advised throughout this event.
