NFL draft: Browns still searching for franchise quarterback

After months of study and speculation, teams will desperately try to land a knockout punch when they replenish their rosters with the best college players at this week's NFL Draft on the beloved "Rocky Steps" in Philadelphia. NFL Network's Mike Mayock says that's a good thing.

In recent weeks, Shanahan has conducted private workouts with both Trubisky and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.

The rise of Trubisky has been a surprise, based on his inexperience - he started just one season for the Tar Heels - and some mixed reviews.

"Mitch Trubisky, ironically, might be the readiest-to-play quarterback in this class", Mayock said.

Here are Mayock's takes on the other three quarterbacks the Jets have shown interest in. He said it was a priority going into his first two drafts, but came away with no quarterback. I love the kid's attitude, his leadership and the way his teammates respond to him. His elite range and knack for interceptions make him a tantalizing prospect, especially for a team that needs that center fielder-type safety.

Michigan Wolverines tight end Jake Butt (88) makes the catch and run as Ohio State Buckeyes cornerback Marshon Lattimore (2) pursues during the first quarter at Ohio Stadium. "That's a big challenge". He has them going with Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Technique breaks down, throws interceptions.

"Obviously the guy's got to be able to win and win consistently and elevate the play of their team", Jackson said in January. "Charles Harris, I think, has picked up some steam". I like the fact that he's an athlete.

That left a lot of draft experts scrambling to figure out what Ryan Pace had up his sleeve for this year's draft and nobody seems to have any idea. He was a high school point guard. But if he was there, I think he'd be a great pick for them, especially from - in addition to talent, he's got an bad lot of talent, and he gets in that three-point stance and he goes. It wasn't like I needed the surgery, I chose to do that because at that point of the season, I knew I made the decision I was going to declare for this upcoming draft. But it's going to take time. The Bears can go one of two ways here. Trubisky has the size, arm strength and athleticism to check plenty of boxes, but will his lack of experience hurt him moving forward? I just think his pocket awareness and pocket mechanics break down too often at critical times. This year's draft brings some incredible running backs that are ready to take the National Football League by storm as soon as their first year.
