Drake to host first-ever 'NBA Awards' on June 26

For the first time in National Basketball Association history, the league will have an award show to announce the victor of the MVP.

Drake himself had hinted at the appearance back in January on University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari's podcast. The global ambassador of the Toronto Raptors hosts Drake Night in his native Canada each year and has been a frequent VIP guest courtside as well as the NBA All-Star Games.

More details about the upcoming NBA Awards. "I get to take the reins on it", Drake said at the time. These awards are typically announced throughout the playoffs but the league has finally chose to give these guys some love on one star studded night.

The inaugural event will honor the best the NBA has to offer, giving out trophies for Kia's NBA Most Valuable Player, Kia's NBA Rookie of the Year, Kia's NBA Sixth Man Award, Kia's NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Kia's NBA Most Improved Player and NBA Coach of the Year.

The NBA's first-ever awards show will include fan-voted awards. The NBA will announce All-NBA teams during the playoffs like previous years-a move created to give teams a better idea of their salary-cap room, given those awards' ties to player contracts. He also hosted the 2014 ESPYs, so his new hosting gig is especially fitting. It'd be a major surprise not to see him try to top "Side Pieces" with a new musical number of some sort.
