President Trump to talk with US Astronauts on Space Station Monday

Orbital ATK and NASA treated us to a spectacular launch with a mission to resupply the International Space Station on Tuesday.

About two and a half hours later, the spacecraft was installed to the orbiting lab's Earth-facing port of the Unity module.

SS John Glenn rocketed from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Wednesday with almost 3.5 tonnes of food, experiments and other goods.

"The crew of Expedition 51 would like to congratulate all the teams at NASA, Orbital ATK and the contractors for a flawless cargo delivery mission", Pesquet radioed after grappling the cargo ship.

"We're very proud to welcome on board the S.S. John Glenn", said French astronaut Thomas Pesquet.

The arrival of the supply ship capped a busy week at the space station, following the arrival of the Soyuz MS-04 crew ferry ship Thursday carrying commander Fyodor Yurchikhin and flight engineer Jack Fischer. They will join the like of NASA's Peggy Whitson, Russian cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy, and ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet, who arrived at the outpost in November a year ago.

Commander of the station's Expedition 51 crew, Whitson will officially set the US record Monday for most cumulative days in space, surpassing NASA astronaut Jeff Williams' record of 534 days.

The decision to use the White House call to the ISS to excite young Americans about the space frontier, coheres with President Trump's earlier speech promoting NASA and evoking Kennedy's space program.

The cargo also included 38 cubesats, many built by university students, which will be deployed directly from either the space station or the spacecraft in the coming months.

She is not only the oldest and most experienced astronaut but the oldest and most experienced spacewalker as well. In 2008, she became the first woman to command the International Space Station (ISS), and her current mission makes her the first woman to command the ISS twice.
