Cleveland Facebook shooting victim Robert Godwin from Alabama

Facebook live murder suspect Steve Stephens kills himself after pursuit

Stephens told the elderly man that Lane was the reason he was being killed before shooting the Cleveland man in the head.

Video showing the murder of Robert Godwin Sr., a 74-year-old former foundry worker, was posted on Facebook, though authorities previously said it was streamed on Facebook Live.

"I looked out and I'm like: 'It sure does look a lot like him, '" DuCharme told Tribune Media Wire. "Some even said he should have killed me". The three hugged, cried, and prayed. When state police pulled up, Stephens took off.

"I forgive him because we are all sinners", Robby Miller, Godwin's son, said in an interview with CNN (twx). Police caught up with him shortly after the exchange, and, following a brief chase, Stephens shot and killed himself, according to police. "We would have preferred that it had not ended this way", he added, saying he and the community would have had "a lot of questions" for Stephens.

After Godwin's murder, Lane was placed in protective care while authorities launched a nationwide hunt for Stephens over the course of several days.

DuCharme said Stephens ordered 20 chicken nuggets and a basket of fries, but that the workers held off on delivering the fries to delay Stephens.

"When people go on the run like this, at some point in time, they need help", Cleveland police chief Calvin Williams told a news conference earlier Tuesday, before Stephens was found dead.

Police would not speculate on what was behind the killing, but in the video and other footage he posted, Stephens talked about losing everything he had to gambling and having trouble with his girlfriend.

Joy Lane told CBS News that she was Stephens' longtime partner. After approaching Godwin on the street, Stephens asked him to say the woman's name before pulling out a gun and firing.

"We lost our dad, but this mother lost her son, his children lost their dad", Godwin-Baines said.

"All I can say is that I wish he had gone down in a hail of 100 bullets", Haymon said.

"The next thing I know, they're approaching the vehicle".

Godwin will be laid to rest Saturday, almost a week after he his last meal with his children.
