United CEO says no one will be fired for dragging incident

United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz

"I personally don't think they should be allowed to overbook", wrote Deboarah Baker.

Dao received a concussion and a broken nose and had two of his teeth knocked out.

The flight was already full when four airline crew members showed up after passengers had boarded and requested seats so they could commute to their next flight out of Louisville, Kentucky.

Footage of 69-year-old Dao being pulled screaming from his seat emerged earlier this month, plunging United Airlines into a PR storm and causing their share prices to plummet.

The Chicago-based United Airlines is reviewing policies with regard to handling oversold flights to prevent similar incidents, and talking to some passengers and employees on how the airline can take a more "common-sense approach", Munoz said. The three officers have all been suspended.

Blumenthal, a Democrat from CT and frequent critic of the airline industry, called the removal of United flight 3411 passenger David Dao by Chicago airport police "brutal and shocking". On Tuesday, he was asked if the company ever considered firing anyone, including management. "We are making this a case-study on what not to do and then reinforcing what one might do in a similar instance, ' he said, adding that all airlines and their lawyers should be doing a 'post-mortem" of the incident.

The increases came after United came under fire after it called security officers to forcibly remove passenger David Dao from an overbooked flight in order to seat crew members for another flight.

Lawyers for Mr Dao reported that their client, a physician from Pennsylvania, sought treatment for unspecified injuries at a local hospital following the incident.

He described the incident as a "system failure across various areas". Munoz declined to address that or other possible changes until the airline finishes a review by April 30.

President Scott Kirby said the company answered questions and concerns from corporate accounts, which are "largely supportive".

As one woman also said, "When the police come, you do what they say".

Enthusiasm for the airline's first-quarter financial results, in which United's profits beat analysts' expectations, was tempered by vows to learn from the incident and put the focus back on customers.
