New England Patriots' QB Tom Brady skips offseason workouts opener, White House

"Winning the Super Bowl was an accomplishment that I've been working for since I was 5 years old". However players Devin McCourty, Martellus Bennett, Chris Long, Dont'a Hightower and LeGarrette Blount all made a decision to skip the South Lawn visit for political differences. Trump did not mention Brady, who was awarded the Super Bowl MVP award and whom he has called a friend, in his absence.

With the Patriots lined up behind him, Trump said: 'No team has been this good for this long'.

Kraft was one of at least seven National Football League team owners who gave $1 million each to Trump's inaugural committee, a new fundraising report shows.

Vice President Mike Pence says in Japan that Washington will work with its allies and China to put economic and diplomatic pressure on North Korea but adds that the United States would defeat any attack with an "overwhelming response".

Trump has particularly close ties to the Patriots, counting owner Bob Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick as friends.

Elsewhere at the White House, the Patriots' Rob Gronkowski interrupted press secretary Sean Spicer's daily briefing with reporters, opening a door behind the spokesman to ask amid laughter: "You need some help?"

It looked like Rutgers star and two-time All-Pro Devin McCourty was going to be the biggest star absent until Wednesday morning, when future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady dropped out because of "personal family matters". "But this one, the way we were treated and the opportunities to be in the oval office and meet with the president, sitting inside of the white house, it's been fabulous", the famously taciturn coach said. "That's the beauty of what they do, they win as a team", said Trump, who compared the team's 25-point comeback against the Atlanta Falcons in February to his own political upset.

Brady did not provide further details as to why he was not attending.

Wednesday's visit also comes as the team grapples with the news that former Patriots star Aaron Hernandez was found dead in jail.

"Thank you to the President for hosting this honorary celebration and for supporting our team for as long as I can remember", Tom Brady said in a statement.

Running Back LeGarrette Blount in a radio interview on "The Rich Eisen Show", said, "I just don't feel welcome in that house".
