Silence on triple talaq like Draupadi episode : UP CM Yogi Adityanath

Yogi Adityanath Slams Politicians For Silence On'Triple Talaq, Compares Practice To Draupadi's'Cheer Haran

"These days there is a new debate in the country". Some people are maintaining silence on this issue.

"No one uttered even a single word".

Drawing an analogy between the silence of politicians on triple talaq and that of the nobles during the disrobing of "Draupadi" in the Mahabharata, he said, "Those in the political class that are keeping mum need to be put in the dock along with the perpetrators of the crime and their accomplices". We should also proceed on the formula of a new India.

"We do not want that there is conflict within the Muslim community over this issue".

Adityanath also slammed those who are against implementaion of Uniform Civil Code (UCC), questioning why should there be two sets of laws "when the entire country is one".

His comments came at a time the Supreme Court is hearing petitions challenging the practice of triple talaq and the Muslim Personal Law Board is of the opinion that the judiciary has nothing to do with the issue.

"It has been decided in the executive body meeting that those misusing triple talaq will face social boycott", AIMPLB member Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mehli said after the two-day meet held in Lucknow.

But the Muslim personal law board maintain that the issue of triple talaq remains outside the realms of the judiciary.

Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress leader said that PM on Monday spoke about the women empowerment and now his minister is belittling the women.

Praising Chandrashekhar as a "true Socialist", Mr. Adityanath said,"His ideology was not as important to him as his country. Politics should be done within the limits of the nation and constitution". "I will take up the issue with CM", he said. Triple talaq is wrong, and the also the tendency to remain silent on this issue. "He also says women always need to be protected - be it by her father, by her husband or by her son - and goes on to say that a woman does not deserve independence or right to decide for herself", he said.
