Investigation Into Prince's Death Reveals Pills Were Hidden Throughout Paisley Park

Cash Keeps Flowing to Unsettled Prince Estate

New court documents reveal how Prince was able to keep his use of unsafe opioid painkillers hidden, leading up to his accidental overdose and death a year ago.

Court documents released by Minnesota authorities on Monday (17Apr17) show that the police officers who responded to the scene after the singer's death at his Paisley Park mansion on 21 April past year (16) found "numerous" pills in his bedroom and other areas of his home.

Schulenberg is the same doctor who was at Paisley Park on April 21 (the day of Prince's death) when deputies arrived on scene and the same doctor who admitted to authorities, he prescribed Oxycodone for Prince on April 14, the day before he overdosed while returning from a show in Atlanta, forcing his plane into an emergency landing.

The day before Prince died, Paisley Park staffers contacted the California addiction specialist as they were trying to get Prince help.

A Minnesota doctor is disputing that he ever prescribed opioids to Prince or to anyone else with the intent they be given to Prince.

Investigators searched Prince's Paisley Park residence and recording studio, scoured an Apple laptop computer in his bedroom, and examined email accounts and phone records.

Last October, a court order extended the seal on the search warrants and accompanying documents involved in the Prince death investigation until April 17, 2017.

Search warrants and affidavits from the Carver County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating Prince's death, were unsealed on Monday. Oxycodone, the generic name for the active ingredient in OxyContin, was not listed as a cause of Prince's death.

Authorities conducted a second search more than two weeks after Prince died and recovered more evidence, including numerous counterfeit pills, the official said.

Inside the suitcase were several bottles with prescriptions in the name of Kirk Johnson, Prince's bodyguard.

Experts say it's natural authorities would want to speak with Johnson, given his proximity to Prince.

The documents said Prince did not have any prescriptions, including for fentanyl.

Associates at Paisley Park also told investigators that Prince was recently "going through withdrawals, which are believed to be the result of the abuse of prescription medication". Emergency responders administer a shot of Narcan, an opioid antidote, and take him to the hospital.

Last August, the Minneapolis Star Tribune quoted a source with knowledge of the investigation as saying that pills seized inside the compound by investigators were labeled as hydrocodone but actually contained fentanyl.

The late Prince was reportedly prescribed opioids under a false name by his doctor.

And the former attorney for two of Prince's dead siblings says they had revealed Prince had an addiction to Percocet decades ago. When pressed in a recent CBS interview to talk about Prince's final days, Johnson pointed to his head and said: "Kirk has a vault". The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation. She said she didn't question what they were.

Prescription medications written to Johnson and dated April 7, 2016 were found in a suitcase with the name tag of "Peter Bravestrong, ' which singer and friend Judith Hill confirmed to investigators was an alias Prince would use while traveling".

Investigators have said little publicly about the case over the past year, other than it is active.
