April the giraffe in NY giving birth before online audience

He's yet to be named, although April's home park, Animal Adventure, is reportedly putting together a GoFundMe account where people can vote for $1 a pop.

The 15-year-old giraffe delivered her calf shortly before 10 a.m. EDT in an enclosed pen at the zoo in Harpursville, a rural upstate village about 130 miles (209 kilometers) northwest of New York City. April has her own website and even a clothing line.

Geoffrey the Giraffe, Toys "R" Us's beloved mascot, was ideal for the Animal Adventure Park's live giraffe cam on YouTube.

The birth lasted around two hours, and was announced on the Facebook page of the park by the owner, Jordan Patch, who posted: "Everybody are you watching?"

The zoo began livestreaming from April's enclosure in February.

It is April's fourth offspring. People around the world have been tuning in daily.

Giraffes are in labor for about 15 months and give birth while standing. According to KYMX News, when Mazuri's contract expired, Animal Adventure Park was scrambling to find a new sponsor.

Currently, the park is looking for a name for the new baby.

A zoo spokesperson says the delivery could take all day Saturday. The internet spent days arguing about the color of a dress, and livestreams have allowed people all over the world to watch and comment on police chases, sporting events, and political protests together.

The news service adds that the zoo plans on a naming contest.

The calf is expected to weigh about 150 pounds (68.04 kilograms) and be about 6 feet (1.83 meters) tall.

The feed had been briefly interrupted by YouTube in February after complaints by some viewers over what they deemed to be "sexually explicit" content.
