Japan PM: North Korea may be capable of sarin-loaded missiles

Nuke-sniffer aircraft arrives on Okinawa as tensions rise on Korean peninsula

Sandwiched between a Korean peninsula seemingly on the verge of war, and an oncoming United States aircraft carrier group headed to monitor North Korean nuclear ambitions, Japan, a key U.S. ally in the region, is being forced to confront the harsh realities of a war that never really ended.

According to South Korean newspaper JoongAng Daily, Seal Team 6 are simulating drills in which they would take out the North Korean leader as well as neutralize weapons of mass destructions, something which was confirmed by the South Korean defense ministry back in March.

China's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs Wu Dawei has been on a four-day visit to South Korea.

Trump added that he had been negotiating directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the Korean matter. Tokyo fears that the country may become a target for a retaliatory strike of Pyongyang under such events.

"I have great confidence that China will properly deal with North Korea", Trump tweeted on Friday.

While analysts have been skeptical of North Korean claims about its intercontinental ballistic missiles capabilities, the country possesses a substantial arsenal of conventional missiles capable of striking South Korea and Japan. But Japan is still puzzling out Trump's intentions, and the next course of action is not yet clear.

"Our toughest counteraction against the USA and its vassal forces will be taken in such a merciless manner as not to allow the aggressors to survive", a statement from the military said. Washington will reportedly comply with the request for such prior consultation. -South Korea hold military exercises.

Increase in military strength is being moved up from mid to early 2020s due to growing North Korean nuclear and missile threats The South Korean military recently chose to move up development of military response capabilities for the North Korean nuclear and missile threats to the early 2020s.

The NSC, in a meeting on Thursday, also discussed how to cope with a possible flood of North Korean refugees into Japan, among whom might be North Korean spies and agents, Japanese media reported. However, in recent months, even Beijing has expressed its wariness at the antics of the hermit kingdom.

In another part of the world, the USA military said on Thursday that it dropped "the mother of all bombs", the largest non-nuclear device it has ever unleashed in combat, on a network of caves and tunnels used by Islamic State in eastern Afghanistan. One officer said, "When this crowd says 'all options are on the table, ' they mean it". The United States military put on a major display the power using a fleet of HH-60 Pave Hawks, F-15 Eagles, E-3 Sentries and KC-135 Stratotankers.
