Trump says North Atlantic Treaty Organisation 'no longer obsolete'

President Donald Trump took credit Wednesday for steering NATO's focus toward terrorism, declaring the military alliance is no longer outdated after castigating its focus and financing on the campaign trail previous year. "I complained about that a long time ago", Trump said, "and they made a change and now they do fight terrorism". But NATO did recently established a new division to fight terrorism, as Stoltenberg noted.

"Right now we are not getting along with Russian Federation at all", Trump said. "I think it's wonderful that they abstained", he said. Just the US and a handful of other countries are meeting the target.

United Kingdom analysis of samples from the Syria chemical attack has detected sarin or a sarin-like substance, Britain's UN ambassador has said. "I think by the time we finish I think it's going to be a lot better place to live".

As Mr. Trump and Stoltenberg were meeting, a United Nations resolution calling for an investigation into the Syria chemical attack last week failed after Russian Federation used its veto. But for now he said, "it's nasty".

President Donald Trump said North Korea "is looking for trouble" Tuesday, warning China that the U.S.

He said he discussed with Stoltenberg his desire that allies fulfill their responsibility to spent 2 percent of its GDP on defense by 2024. Only a handful of alliance members meet that target now. "He will emphasize the ironclad USA commitment to the collective defense of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies".

Trump says Defense Secretary Jim Mattis is looking into the question of whether Russian Federation knew about the attack ahead of time. "It's not either development or security".

The decision had largely been expected, despite Trump's sometimes mercurial decision-making and harsh words for the military alliance.

Likewise, Trump wants to cut by half the number of refugees the USA takes in.

"That's a butcher", Trump said of Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad. "The secretary general and I agree that other member nations must satisfy their responsibility to contribute 2 percent of GDP to defense".

Trump also warned Russian President Vladimir Putin that in backing Assad, Putin was supporting someone who is "truly an evil person". I was very disappointed to see - it's disappointing no matter who does it.
