Garcia wins 1st major title at the Masters

Garcia wins 1st major title at the Masters

In all, 14 players will go into Sunday within six shots of the lead, including grand slam-chasing Rory McIlroy. Both are at 6-under par 210.

Charley Hoffman walks to the 15th green during the third round of the Masters golf tournament Saturday, April 8, 2017, in Augusta, Ga.

The trade-off is the lack of a stunning, horticultural brilliance - the 13th hole here is named "Azalea"- that annually takes the breath away for many first-timers in the gallery.

However, McIlroy wasted no time in getting that shot back when play resumed on Saturday in far calmer and warmer conditions that had prevailed on the first two days. Although the Englishman appreciates Spieth's history on the former plant nursery, he didn't sound like a man who would spend Sunday looking over his shoulder.

The last time Puyallup's Ryan Moore stepped foot in the state of Georgia, he almost won the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta, losing in a sudden-death playoff to Rory McIlroy.

"Everybody has a storyline", Rose said. I feel comfortable on the golf course, like every time I tee up I've got a chance to win.

England's Lee Westwood, runner-up a year ago, shot 68 to finish at one under along with Belgian Thomas Pieters, the joint overnight leader who struggled to a scrappy 75.

Pieters was the first to leave the rarefied air.

But it was the 11th hole where he three-putted from 5 feet, and a double bogey removed him from the list of viable contenders. It was an hour and fifty five I finished and I shot 72.

Fowler floundered early, finishing the 10th hole at 1 over for the day. His ball (second shot) ended up behind a tree and it took him four strokes to finish the hole, allowing Weir to win the Masters with a bogey.

Everywhere you look on the leaderboard from top to bottom, there's someone with the pedigree who can win. But with that being said, even when you're playing conservative lines, you still have to execute. But, yeah, she's like, you better get it out now before the kids get back. While all eyes were on the struggles of Hoffman and Garcia's scrambling, Rose really wasn't noticed until he birdied 17 and 18.

But for the most part, I'm not going to sit here and second-guess one or two shots. The golf world expected big things from him.

Garcia has gone a combined 38-over par to average 75 in 13 prior Masters third rounds.

Fowler is also seeking his breakthrough major after four PGA Tour wins including this year's Honda Classic.

Justin Rose is back in the clubhouse with a 5-under 67 and a share of the Masters lead.

Moore blasted a drive of 319 yards and hit a 7-iron approach to four feet to make a hard test seem easy. All but for the grace of a mower set high, his ball defied gravity and stayed on the incline from the water to the fringe.

Five feet away from winning, his birdie putt peeled off to the right. He said he was nervous on the first tee and I'm like, in my head I'm like, I'm kind of nervous because I don't want to let my marker beat me. "Thirteen was obviously was one of them". "I'm playing good golf". "Playing in the Ryder Cup previous year under a lot of pressure ... you take little pieces of all those things and kind of carry them with you and just hope something along the line helps and makes a difference".

Still, with all that talent at the top, the real favorite might be Spieth.

The last time only one area player made the Masters cut was in 1994 when Fred Funk survived to the weekend and tied for 38th.

This is the final year of automatic eligibility for the 47-year-old Els, and given his age and state of his game, he knows it will be tough to earn his way back.

Garcia and Rose will play in the final group.

He will be paired with Spieth in the penultimate group.

The 25-year-old Pieters, who played a starring role for Europe in the 2016 Ryder Cup with four wins out of five matches, is bidding to become the first debutant since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979 to win the Masters.

So, call Sunday's final round a coin flip.
