Russian Federation knew Syrian chemical attack was coming

A senior U.S. official says the United States has concluded that Russia knew in advance of Syria’s chemical weapons attack last week

"We rededicate ourselves to holding to account any and all who commit crimes against the innocents anywhere in the world", Tillerson said.

Tillerson spent the morning at a WWII ceremony at the site of a Nazi massacre in Sant'Anna di Stazzema near Lucca.

The prime minister left no doubt that he considered Assad's government responsible for last week's chemical attack, which killed more than 80 people, including many children, in the Syrian province of Idlib.

The meeting in the Tuscan city of Lucca on Monday will focus on simmering tensions between Russian Federation and the West over the conflict in Syria, just days after United States airstrikes on Syrian government forces raised questions about Washington's strategy.

G-7 diplomats sitting down for talks in the centuries-old Ducal Palace in Lucca, Italy, hope to use outrage over the attack and wide worldwide support for the United States' retaliatory missile strikes to push Russian Federation to abandon Assad and join a new peace effort for Syria.

The gathering in the Italian city of Lucca, which begins at 1430 GMT, groups foreign ministers from the USA and Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan.

"There's no doubt the U.S. action is a game-changer in Syria".

She acknowledged the confusion in the wake of the strike, and suggested the ambiguity is intentional: "We're going to keep all of our thoughts and plans close to the chest".

The two-day G-7 meeting in the Tuscan walled city of Lucca is bringing together the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Britain, Japan and Canada, the USA and current G-7 president Italy, as well as European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

Trudeau was, however, non-committal when it came to the question of how to remove Assad from power, and whether Russian Federation should be punished for supporting him. He is scheduled for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov April 12. Those include getting rid of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's remaining chemical weapons and pressing Assad to negotiate Syria's future.

"It was a very deliberate, very proportional, and very targeted strike undertaken in response to the chemical weapons attack". NORTH KOREA A US decision to move a Navy strike group toward the Korean peninsula is a "prudent" reaction to a pattern of provocative behavior from North Korea, White House national security adviser H.R. McMaster said on Sunday.

The G-7 meeting comes as the United States is sending a Navy carrier strike group toward the Korean Peninsula in a show of strength following North Korea's persistent ballistic missile tests.

Haley said Tillerson would put pressure on Moscow over its support for Assad. He told CBS's "Face the Nation" that the threat of ISIS would first need to be reduced, then "I think we can turn our attention directly to stabilising the situation in Syria".

Though both the European Union and the United Kingdom came out in support of last week's cruise missile strikes, conflicting statements from top USA officials have caused confusion worldwide.

Tillerson said Washington's priority remained the defeat of the so-called "Islamic State" (IS) terrorist group.
