Pearl Jam Is Inducted Into Rock Hall

Pearl Jam capped off the evening with a hilarious induction speech by a fully bearded David Letterman.

The upcoming photo book will feature images McCready shot on Pearl Jam tours and his personal travels, including concerts, people, architecture and art.

The retired TV host, now 69, was an 11th hour substitute for Neil Young, who cited an undisclosed illness and couldn't make the event ("The poor guy just can't stay up this late", Letterman teased).

Pearl Jam, Journey and Joan Baez were among the 2017 class of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees honored in a megawatt ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Friday night. The inductees from Pearl Jam were McCready, singer Eddie Vedder, bassist Jeff Ament, guitarists Mike McCready and Stone Gossard and drummers Matt Cameron and Dave Krusen.

Snoop Dogg paid tribute to legendary rapper Tupac Shakur, calling Tupac, "the greatest rapper of all time".

Speaking of rappers, Shakur - who died in 1996 - was remembered by Snoop Dogg with a touching and playful speech. "He looks me right in the eye and says, 'Stop doing that.' And I was cured, ladies and gentlemen". "That's what made Tupac the greatest rapper of all time". "While many of you remember him now as some kind of thugged-out superhero, Tupac knew he was only human." said Snoop Dogg.

Alicia Keys opened the set of performances honouring Tupac, with a medley of snippets of 'Pac songs, following which Snoop Dogg and YG performed "Gangsta Party"; Treach from Naughty by Nature did "Hail Mary" and T.I. gave an affecting cover of "Keep Ya Head Up".

The crowd was also enthusiastic when Steve Perry took the stage with Journey for their acceptance speeches but that turned to disappointment when current lead singer Arnel Pineda was the only singer on Journey's three numbers. Train's Pat Monahan inducted them, saying "Tonight I'm here to live out a life-long dream, to induct the heart of San Francisco music into the rock hall". The original line-up of the "Jeremy" hitmakers then performed for the first time since 1991.

David Letterman inducted the band, and brought a small guitar and letter onstage that he said Vedder gave to his son days before his late-night show ended in 2015.

On the surprises side, Rush's Geddy Lee DID join Yes in place of Chris Squire for the song Roundabout.

Lynne's ELO band also performed "Evil Woman" and "Mr".

Artists are eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single.

Producer and songwriter Nile Rodgers received a special recognition award presented by Pharrell Williams.
