Giraffe born at Toledo zoo won't go on exhibit for a while

The owner of the Animal Adventure Park started the live stream so that people could keep up with April's pregnancy while the zoo is closed in the off-season.

"Those long legs take a little bit of getting used to but the new calf is doing ever so well, as is mom".

They are hoping this is in preparation for the "launch sequence".

Exactly one week after her keepers excitedly declared that the birth of her calf was imminent - after hundreds of thousands of people locked eyes on a live stream from her pen as naysayers theorized that it was all just a hoax - April the giraffe is still gestating. Oliver, the father, is 5 and this is his first calf. The calf will weigh around 150 pounds and be approximately 6 feet tall at birth. After YouTube took down the live stream following protests from animal activists claiming that the live stream is a violation of YouTube's nudity and sexual content policy, the video on April's pregnancy has eventually been up and running again.

According to reports, April consumed all of her meal offering last Thursday evening, which was composed of grains and hays, suggesting that the 15-year-old giraffe's appetite is back to normal and that she was really hungry.

April the giraffe is still very much pregnant. April the giraffe was expected to give birth in mid-February but has extended for more than a month.

April the giraffe's popularity has gone far beyond anything anticipated even by the staff at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville.

"Well Giraffe Fans, here we are approaching another weekend without a giraffe calf.*sigh*", the zoo wrote in a Saturday morning Facebook post. Some customers have even complained on social media that there were no more plush giraffes available at their local Toys "R" Us. Pretty much all of her clinical signs from a couple days ago are still true. There is no reason for worry about her or the calf's health. The last time the Kim Komando Facebook page posted her live feed, the video received over 17,000 views and over 1,700 comments!

Over a week of April is over without April showing signs of going into active labor. Patch explained that it's not very likely that you will be able to tell April's labor until you see an actual hoof begin to poke out of her rear-end.

When the calf is born, the zoo will hold a contest to name the newborn.
