With Messi back, Barcelona faces free-falling Sevilla

Show Grid

April 5, 2017 at 20:30, in the central match of the 30th round of the Spanish championship - Examples, at the stadium "Camp Nou" Barcelona will face Sevilla.

The goal from Suarez opened the scoring at Camp Nou on the night, while Lionel Messi added a quick fire brace within a few minutes to instantly kill the game off and extend Barça's winning run in La Liga to nine victories in their last 10 outings.

Sevilla's six-match winless run in all competitions is their worst under Jorge Sampaoli and they nearly found themselves behind within four minutes as Messi crashed a shot against the underside of the crossbar from 20 yards with Sergio Rico motionless. The ball popped up after a Messi cross into the area, but with his back to goal Suarez sends an overhead kick past Rico and into the net.

Onto the second half, where not much happened in truth.

After his first goal in the 28th minute put Barcelona up 2-0, Messi put two fingers to his cheek and mimiced applying facepaint to it.

Fully rested from the global break and a yellow-card suspension, Messi returns for Barcelona's decisive La Liga contest against rival Sevilla on Wednesday.

Luis Enrique hailed Barcelona's "best first-half performance of the season" as they kept the pressure on LaLiga leaders Real Madrid by swatting aside Sevilla.

The Argentine maestro missed out on Barca's 4-1 demolition of Granada over the weekend through suspension, but made his return to the starting line up for Wednesday evening's meeting against Sevilla.

Goooal! Barcelona will have two chances to reclaim the top of La Liga as they play twice within three days. Usually Messi finds himself on the right, and that's where he did the damage when he created the opening goal for Suarez. The Andalusians have really hit a terrible run of form and come into this game without a win in 5 matches, having failed to see off lowly Sporting Gijon at home at the weekend.

"Barca don't need many chances to score". Though, the Sevilla is spotted at the fourth position with the points of 58.

Meanwhile, this will likely be the final dagger in Sampaoli's faltering hopes of replacing Enrique, who is departing Barcelona after the season. But despite early support from the Catalan club's supporters, this Sevilla slump has provided the ideal excuse for the Blaugrana board to rule him out.
