Apple Watch Series 3 to launch by the second half of 2017

Recent reports reveal that the Apple Watch Series 3 will be made available by the second half of the year. The unveiling of the "Apple Watch Series 3" is said to be alongside with the "iPhone 8" in September, this year, according to BGR. Instead, Compal will manufacture a portion of the second-generation Apple Watch, alongside Quanta Computer. If this prediction is true, the Apple Watch Series 3 will share the limelight with the upcoming 2017 iPhones that are expected to be showcased September of this year. Since companies belonging to the supply group have declined to comment on its orders as well as the clients it has partnered with, and DigiTimes continued to remain unsuccessful on this front.

Apart from battery life and performance improvements, it's been suggested that the Apple Watch will finally gain LTE capabilities, something which many have speculated including KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who personally reported that Apple may refresh the Apple Watch Series 2 during early 2017 with LTE capabilities and minor tweaks. This comprised approximately for close to 50% of all smartwatch shipments according to Canalys, a research firm. Compal is one of the world's largest contract notebook manufacturers, and past year shipped 5M wearable and Internet of Things devices. The Apple Watch Series 2 already boasts a super-bright, colourful and crisp display, so chances are it won't be tweaked too much. The new wearable will likely be released on the second half of this year.

Apple is said to have brought Compal Electronics onto its production line, helping to produce older Apple Watch models. In 2017, this figure is expected to be double as it is estimated that Compal will ship about 10 million wearable device units.

Compal has been moving equipment from plants in Eastern China to Chongqing since the second half of 2016, and the plants will gradually become the main production base for IT products including tablet, smartphone and wearable devices.
