Russian Spy, Whose Associate Met With Page, Deported After Prison Term

Carter Page then adviser to U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks at the graduation ceremony for the New Economic School in Moscow Russia. A foreign policy adviser to Donald Trump

And four years ago, a Trump adviser interacted with a Russian spy trying to elicit intelligence.

The new revelations will nearly certainly mean more scrutiny for Page, an otherwise obscure figure who catapulted to prominence past year after Trump said the former investment banker was advising the campaign.

He's also long criticized US sanctions against Russia, which may or may not have everything to do with his similarly long list of business interests in the country, so it's not entirely surprising that he'd be someone Russian agents would meet with to seek "information" on those sanctions.

Castro spoke in an interview with CNN.

Here is a summary of the three previously undisclosed meetings.

The Post claimed it was part of an apparent effort to establish a back-channel line of communication between Moscow and the incoming President.

After he was named by Trump, news stories discussed his travel to Russian Federation and his frequent of criticism of U.S.policy towards Russian Federation under Obama.

The FBI, as well as the Senate and House intelligence committees, are investigating Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election and any ties between Moscow and Trump's associates, including Page. The crown prince suggested holding it in the Seychelles for privacy. How much influence does he have with the Trump administration?

Topic: This is disputed.

A Republican congressman who's emerged as Russia's top defender on Capitol Hill will meet with President Donald Trump at the White House Tuesday. But this is just one of several ties between people in the president's orbit and Moscow that's been revealed in recent days. At the time the Russians were seeking information on USA sanction and on energy development.

If Kushner and Gorkov discussed sanctions, their meeting would raise the prospect that Trump would lift the sanctions, a move he said during the campaign that he would consider. He worked under non-official cover for the Russian bank, Vnesheconombank.

He has offered to testify in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee for its investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and the Russian goverment.

Sen. Lindsay Graham, a Republican of SC, questioned why Kushner would meet with a banker. I think he is an idiot and forgot who I am.

Two years before joining the Trump campaign as a foreign policy adviser, NY business consultant Carter Page was targeted for recruitment as an intelligence source by Russian spies promising favors for business opportunities in Russia, according to a sealed Federal Bureau of Investigation complaint.

Podobnyy, officially an attaché to the Russian mission of the United Nations, told the Page that he would work with Sporyshev, as Russia's trade representative in NY, to win contracts for Page.

Prosecution documents say that Mr Podobnyy tried to recruit Mr Page. At one meeting, Carter gave Podobnyy documents about the energy business.

"Similar to my experience in the Navy such as on USS Alabama, the service I've provided to this country in areas that are classified such as any federal investigation I may have supported is not something that is appropriate to talk about", Page said over email. According to Page, "their interactions did not include anything sensitive".

In addition, the contact occurred three years before Page became associated with the Trump campaign - and association that both Page and Trump have minimized.

"I didn't want to be a spy", he said.

The U.S. Department of Justice charged Podobnyy and two others in 2015 for not registering with the U.S.as Russian agents.

At the time of Buryakov's arrest, prosecutors announced similar charges against two other Russian citizens - Igor Sporyshev and Viktor Podobny.
