Advertisers flee Bill O'Reilly's show but impact unclear

Jenny Craig, the weight-loss and diet company whose ads were spotted earlier this week running during Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor", said it has suspended its ties to that program in the wake of backlash to a New York Times report detailing settlements made to women who have accused the show's anchor, Bill O'Reilly, of sexual harassment. "Essentially what Donald Trump is saying in that quote is, 'I'm friends with Bill O'Reilly, and he probably didn't do anything wrong'".

Ailes, who has denied all of the allegations against him, was forced to resign from Fox News just one week after that interview.

During Sexual Assault Awareness Month - an awareness event created by President Trump - the POTUS went on-record defending Fox host Bill O'Reilly amid his ongoing sexual harassment scandal.

The advertiser boycotts, however, are likely manageable for Fox, said Pivotal Research Group analyst Brian Wieser in a note Tuesday.

A Fox News contributor who filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against former chief executive Roger Ailes is asking New York City's anti-discrimination agency to investigate the network.

According to several United States media, a dozen companies in total would have liked to disengage, although none is among the top five advertisers of Bill O'Reilly's program, according to data reported to AFP by the Kantar Media Institute. They joined Mercedes Benz, which said Monday it was backing away from O'Reilly's show. The automaker said it wants to partner with companies and programming that share its values of inclusion and diversity.

As word of sexual harassment and verbal abuse allegations pours in, and high-paying advertisers pull out, Bill O'Reilly is receiving support from on high, specifically the top office inside 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

In recent days, at least 19 advertisers have pulled their spots from his show or promised to do so.

GlaxoSmithKline said it had "temporarily put a hold" on ads on O'Reilly's show while it reviews the situation. Sanofi and Untuckit have the same plan.
