Strong Storm likely Sunday — FIRST ALERT FORECAST

The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center says the storms are likely to cause significant wind damage near and north of the Interstate 20 corridor in east Texas and Louisiana throughout the day and into Sunday night.

Make sure to stay on top of updates through the next day as the situation continues to evolve.

There are a couple things to note on the two images above.

Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell said the shelter locations include Corinth City Hall, Alcorn County Courthouse, the EMA building on Levee Road and most volunteer fire departments. Excessive rainfall is also expected with 3-6 inches or higher falling in many areas by Monday morning.

Some of the storms that develop this morning and this afternoon could be strong. After the line moves out into the Atlantic, much improved weather will be seen under partly cloudy skies.

Severe weather is possible across the state later Sunday night and into Monday morning. During this time we'll be watching activity to our west as it tracks east and looks to impact Alabama Monday. If this occurs that would result in a stronger surface low and a better response from low-level wind fields.

Another round of severe storms is expected in the southern Plains, Gulf Coast and lower Mississippi Valley this weekend as another bullish jet stream trough lumbers out of the Southwest.

Tornadoes, damaging winds gusts and large hail are all concerns.

We'll have a great deal of moisture in the atmosphere to work with Sunday.

Available atmospheric moisture (shown above) from the bottom to top is added together and put into this graphic. There is a possibility of storms moving across the same areas creating pockets of higher totals through Monday. Several counties are in a flash flood watch that is in effect until 7 p.m. tonight, including Burleson, Brazos, Grimes and Madison counties.

The first wave of storms moves out by around 2 pm, then afternoon storms will be possible along a cold front.

As with any forecast, things could change quickly. Monitor KNOE on air, online and on social media for all the latest watches and warnings. We'll be with you every step of the way!
