Senators seek visitor logs from White House, Mar-a-Lago

Elizabeth Warren, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Tom Udall, and Rep. Elijah Cummings-who say the North Korea incident raises serious concerns about the president's willingness and ability to protect classified information while staying at Mar-a-Lago.

Whether the Trump administration wants to call Mar-a-Lago the Winter White House, the Southern White House, the Weekend White House or something else altogether, some Democrats are now demanding that they treat the parade of visitors coming and going from there like their predecessors largely treated the regular White House itself - by actually recording their names.

The response to one Democrat's proposed legislation to find out who President Donald Trump is rubbing elbows with at his Florida retreat Mar-a-Lago is simple - the resort can't turn over that which it doesn't have. President Trump has assembled a cabinet filled with millionaires and billionaires, he's pursuing an agenda of massive tax cuts for the rich, and the initiation fees at Mar-A-Lago - where people are getting uncommon access to the president and his top advisers - have just doubled to $200,000.

.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump and other Republicans sharply criticized Democrat Hillary Clinton for compromising national security by using a private email server.

"White House visitor logs help provide the American people with an important look at who is meeting with the President and his staff and a greater understanding of White House business", said Reed. "And given President Trump's unprecedented decision to conduct official business at his private business properties, the Trump administration has an obligation to make public the visitor lists at places like Mar-a-Lago and Trump Tower".

Since he assumed office on January 20, Trump has traveled to Mar-a-Lago five times.

Sunlight Foundation Executive Director John Wonmderlick also released a statement regarding the proposal, saying "the Obama administration's voluntary online disclosure of the White House visitor logs provided the American public with a meaningful window into the influence and operations of the White House, despite its flaws".

And it will investigate whether Trump's hotels are sending to the U.S. Treasury any profits from foreign government customers.

The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
