NRP obtain Canada-wide arrest warrant for Justin Kuijer

St. Catharines bank stabbing

Authorities said they will be issuing a Canada-wide warrant for a St. Catharines man in connection with a first-degree murder and an attempted murder on Friday.

About 10 minutes before the stabbing a 911 call was made from an apartment at 173 Queenston St., where Kuijer's stepson, Nathan Dumas, was critically injured.

Const. Gavin says Kuijer is wanted for first-degree murder in the death of his stepson as well as an attempted murder charge in relation to the stabbing of a bank employee on Friday.

Gavin says the regional police will ask for a pan-Canadian arrest warrant as soon as the judges enter the office on Monday morning.

The family has also started a GoFundMe campaign in order to raise funds for his funeral.

The case has been a tough one for police and the community, Gavin said.

"It's a awful situation for her, but we're doing what we can to support her", Gavin said. We have three kids, ” said Dumas, who had been in a relationship with the man for almost six years.

"We believe her injuries to be serious in nature at this point", Gavin said on scene at the Huntington Square strip mall.

Police later said they believe the victim was targeted but were still trying to determine the motive for the attack. “But we cant do that because of the measures they took to try and save his life.”. The boy was rushed to hospital and later died the next day.

She said she doesnt understand why anyone would hurt her son other than as a way to hurt her. The name of that victim has not been released.

Kuijer is said to be armed and unsafe.

Investigators said Kuijer was last seen driving a dark grey 2009 Pontiac Montana van with the license plate BYTE392.

Police noted a unique decal on the rear window of the van - a pink floral sticker commemorating the search for missing person Ashley Simpson - but added that the sticker could be removed, too.

Police say Kuijer is considered armed and unsafe and his whereabouts remain unknown.

He urged Kuijer to turn himself in peacefully.

Members of the public who have information are invited to call the Niagara Regional Police.

The suspect is described as a white man, about 35 years old, with a thin build, trimmed beard and longer dark hair.

At the time of the incident Kuijer was wearing a black toque, a brown leather coat, dark trousers, an orange hoodie and boots.
