Samuel L Jackson Wants To Make American Cinema Great Again

John Boyega hits out at Samuel L Jackson over black British actors criticism

Jackson was recently on Hot 97 and was discussing Daniel Kaluuya, a black British actor, in the lead role for "Get Out".

"I tend to wonder what would that movie would have been with an American brother who really understands it, in a way".

Jackson noted on Monday that a lot of roles are going to British actors.

As part of his argument to support his feelings on the situation, Jackson pointed out that Kaluuya was raised in a country where interracial dating has been happening for the past 100 years. Unfortunately, black Americans don't have the opportunity to go to the United Kingdom and see if they can adapt the British accent and work. While Samuel L. Jackson did admit that there are some things that are universal, not everything is.

Jackson while airing his grievance also cited British actor David Oyelowo, 40, who played Martin Luther King Jr.in the 2014 biopic Selma.

Asked why the trend toward British actors exist, Jackson explained, "They're cheaper than us, for one thing". They don't cost as much ...

He continued, "And they think they're better trained for some reason than we are because they're classically trained". "We can talk it out, we can work it out, it's all good".

Jackson's comments haven't gone over well with other black British actors, including "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star John Boyega.

Another layer of the conversation comes with the classic training listed in British actors background. "Unless you're an unknown brother that they're finding somewhere", Jackson said.

Other black actors in Los Angeles said the comments had sparked an important conversation, and say the hiring of United Kingdom talent is another form of industry discrimination they face on a regular basis.

"I enjoy watching them, British actors coming here, I enjoy their work, I enjoy working with them, and I have the opportunity to do that".

In his original interview, Jackson said he wondered what the film Get Out would have been like with a USA actor. "A stupid ass conflict we don't have time for", Boyenga tweeted on Tuesday night. We have plenty of opportunities to work. The "Kong: Skull Island" star brought up the broader trend of using Brits to tell poignant American stories in light of the popularity of "Get Out" during a radio interview.
