Mom demanded heroin while in labor

NH Women Arrested After One Injected the Other with Drugs While She was Giving Birth Cops

Two New Hampshire women are facing reckless conduct charges after one allegedly used a dirty syringe to inject the other with narcotics, after she reportedly requested the drugs during childbirth.

Farruggia and the baby were taken to Concord Hospital where they were admitted for several days.

Frenette faces one misdemeanor and one felony count of reckless conduct. "She didn't really care what".

Frenette eventually complied with the request, giving Farruggia the drugs with an unsanitary syringe, police said.

"This case is just, honestly, absolutely appalling in my mind", Lieutenant Sean Ford said. She gave birth to the baby boy while in the ambulance. The child's urine tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, according to authorities.

Bail was set at $25,000 for Frenette and $15,000 for Farruggia.

According to the affidavit, Farruggia said she started having contractions, went to the bathroom and lay on the floor.

Police told WBZ-TV the investigation took so long because they had to wait for toxicology reports and needed witnesses to cooperate. "She said that (Farruggia) was in full blown labor and essentially mutilating herself with the needle".

Frenette told police she acknowledged that what she did was wrong, but believed that Farruggia would have injected herself with more of the drug, believed to be heroin, if she hadn't intervened.

The attorney claims that Frenette described the reason for doing this as she said she's a "people pleaser".

Police stated in documents that the baby was able to breathe on his own, but was breathing very rapidly, which may have been caused by the mother's drug use.

Both women were arrested this week.
