O Panneerselvam faction on day-long fast; seek probe into Jaya's death

Jayalalithaa clearly took an adversarial position vis-a-vis anyone who wrote about her health

O Pannerselvam (OPS) a loyalist of Jayalalithaa, today gathered with other rebel MLAs for a long fast that began in the morning at 9 am and will continue until 5 pm.

The show of strength came two days after the government released a "treatment summary" describing how doctors had battled in vain to save Jayalalithaa, who died on December 5 past year after 75 days in a Chennai hospital. On September 22, Jayalalithaa was brought to the hospital after she reportedly suffered dehydration.

As the Panneerselvam camp intensified its attack on interim party chief Sasikala recently, the state government made public the treatment records of Jayalalithaa on Monday.

O Panneerselvam on Wednesday contested the time of J Jayalalithaa's death, released by the state government, and claimed he was informed about her demise almost five hours earlier. "When I was CM, I initiated an inquiry into Jayalalithaa's death, the government should inquire into it; we will keep fighting", said Panneerselvam. V Maitreyan, AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP said that there were still "doubts" in the minds of people as well as AIADMK cadre as to whether Jayalalithaa's death was natural.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the State wing of Indian Medical Association and Tamil Nadu Medical Council held separate press meets and said there was no negligence or misconduct on the part of doctors who treated Jayalalithaa.
