Ibrahimovic, Mings charged with violent conduct

Mourinho 'Bournemouth parked the bus' for United draw

Manchester United's in-form forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic was on Tuesday handed a three-game ban after accepting a charge of violent conduct, England's Football Association announced.

The veteran striker will miss the FA cup match against Chelsea and the league matches against Middlesbrough and West Brom.

He will return in the home game with Everton on April 4, but remains eligible for the Reds' Europa League clashes with FC Rostov.

The duo tussled a few times at Old Trafford and were fortunate enough not to sent-off by referee Kevin Friend, with Andrew Surman the only one to be sent off in the game, but the FA has responded by retrospectively charging both players with violent conduct.

Manchester United are sixth on the table and three pointa behibehind City in fourth place.

Ibrahimovic was also, allegedly, a victim on the day.

Both players had protested their innocence following the contest by claiming there was no intent behind their actions, with Mings telling Sky Sports he would "never" purposely stamp on anyone and Ibrahimovic claiming to BBC Sport that Mings jumped "into my elbow".

The former Sweden worldwide will miss the next three domestic fixtures- United's FA Cup quarterfinal tie with Chelsea next Monday plus two Premier League clashes, away at Middlesbrough and at home to West Bromwich Albion.

The 35-year-old was caught on camera elbowing Bournemouth defender, Tyrone Mings, before half time during their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday.

You can review video and reaction to the incident at this link.

Ibrahimovic elbowed Bournemouth's Tyrone Mings in the head during last weekend's match, and it seemed highly likely he'd be facing a ban after match officials missed the incident.

If Mings and Bournemouth lose out on the appeal the ban could be lengthened significantly.

"It was a good battle, you know exactly what you are going to get playing against him". "These situations happen. I go for the ball and I am unlucky that he jumps into my elbow". As a side that already has a penchant for drawing matches against minnows - see Bournemouth 1-1 - Ibrahimovic's absence will only plunge the likelihood of victory in those matches further into doubt.
