IPhone 8 rumors: USB-C replacement for Lightning jack, curved screen speculated

All iPhone 8 models have also been rumored to provide support for wireless charging because the removal of the headphone jack would need to warrant some form of flexible addition. Rather, he expects the iPhone 8 to have both a Lightning port and USB Type-C port.

The decisions Apple makes when designing new products are always scrutinized, which means when it comes to aesthetics and technologies, there is always something to nitpick. According to Soneira, the bezels would possibly be removed in the upcoming device. This is especially true for Apple's laptops, which over the years have lost a variety of ports, including everything from Ethernet to USB 1.0, SD card slots and Apple-specific power ports like Mag-Safe.

We'll have to wait until Apple actually launches its new iPhones before we know for sure what kind of port they'll have. It's about time the company adapts a standard instead of requiring all sorts of dongles for its proprietary tech, and it would have made flawless sense for transfers between its USB-C-compatible computers.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week that the next iPhone would feature a "USB-C port for the power cord and other peripheral devices instead of the company's original Lightning connector". It is to be noted, however, that the MacBooks never had a Lightning connector in the first place.

Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs once said: "I've always wanted to own and control the primary technology in everything we do". Since the iPhone 5 in September 2012, Apple has released its most significant iPhones at its September event.

The update is also Apple's first move into super-detailed OLED screens, which are able to show off higher resolutions and more attribute than the LCD displays now used in previous iPhone devices. Prior to the Lightning connector, Apple had used a 30-pin dock connector for iPhones.

Apple faced outrage past year after dropping the headphone cable on iPhone 7 - but users have largely adapted to the change.
