Former NAACP leader Rachel Dolezal gets new African name

The Daily Mail reports that Dolezal has renamed herself.

Dolezal, who was raised by her now estranged parents, white Christian fundamentalists Larry and Ruthanne Dolezal, in rural Montana, consistently repeated that she doesn't feel she led anyone to believe a falsehood about her or her identity. The publication writes that Dolezal filed the change last October and has maintained her stance that race should be a decision made by the person and not determined by genetics.

She has applied for over 100 jobs with no luck.

Her Twitter name remains Rachel Anne Dolezal, and that is the byline on her book as well.

She has, however, been tweeting about motherhood - last we heard, a year and a half back, she was pregnant, and the baby is now one year old - and is still fending off haters. Her name is now Nkechi Amare Diallo.

Do I even need to remind you who she is? After all, no one has an issue with Dolezal working to address racism, and her knowledge and experience could have allowed her to build a career without the lies. Rather than going with Jane Doe or Mary Smith or anything else which might've flown under the radar, let's just say that she went with something a bit more unique. Some photos create an impression of darker skin and emphasize her very curly, frequently braided or dreadlock-styled hair.

She is still apologising for her deception two years later. "I feel like the idea of being trans-black would be much more accurate than "I'm white".

The latest development in the unusual saga of Rachel Dolezal is a legal name-change.

Rachel changed her name in a Washington court in October according to legal documents.

Diallo, or "bold", is ultimately of Fula origin.

In the petition, listed under the name Nkechi Diallo, she asked people to sign a petition saying: "Rachel Dolezal's TEDx Talk on Race & Identity...is still not available online".
