Facebook Inc (FB) Launches Official Video App for Apple TV

Facebook just made another play for more eyeballs on its video content with the new Facebook Live app for Apple TV. If you are an iOS user, you will only be able to access the standard Facebook app, whereas if you an Apple TV user, you will be able to access the video app, notes MacRumors. The official description for the Facebook Video app reveals that it will be letting viewers scan through different videos that are shared by their friends and from the pages they follow. Facebook's VP of Partnerships Dan Rose had earlier announced that the Facebook app on your TV screen might go live.

Now, fourth-gen Apple TV owners do not have to rely on their smartphone or laptop to watch live videos posted on Facebook. However, the experience might not be ad-free as Facebook is pushing for longer and high-quality videos in the future. It will also offer users relevant videos based on their viewing history and their preferred topics. Following contains videos by both friends and liked pages while Shared by Friends only lists videos from friends. The social media giant is doubling-down on video streaming, and has even been talking with major sports leagues about the possibility of streaming sports games, according to a Reuters report from earlier this month. Once you're in an original carousel, you can swipe left or right to browse videos, and the app will automatically start playing the one which is centered on the screen. Similar to other TV apps, you can log in from your mobile device. The app is now available through the fourth generation Apple TV and all Samsung 2015, 2016, and 2017 Smart TV models, including the company's new 2017 QLED TVs.
