A liberating ode to the moment heartbreak turns to hope

Lorde teases new single 'Green Light' in Auckland

A video for the track, directed by Grant Singer, will also be released today, the singer revealed.

This year, LORDE makes her anxiously awaited return with the new single "Green Light,"marking the first taste of new music that will set the tone for her highly anticipated performances at marquee festivals including Coachella, Governors Ball, and Bonnaroo".

Lorde worked on the song with Jack Antonoff, best known as the guitarist of fun. and the frontman of Bleachers.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1's Mistajam about the new album, titled Melodrama, she said: "I feel like the whole time spent writing this record, I've had [Bowie] in my thoughts, I've had him in my heart". We'll be eagerly watching for more singles and news about the new album, so keep checking back in for all the Lorde updates you need. We'll probably never know exactly what went down during her "first major heartbreak", but in January 2016, sharp-eyed Instagram followers noticed that she and Lowe hadn't shared any pictures of one another in a while. "She thinks you love the beach, you're such a damn liar", Lorde growls. You can check out more of the lyrics at Genius, along with some explanations, but here's a sneak peek of her written brilliance.

"Green Light" locates the universality in a very specific experience, as a truly effective pop gem should.

Celebrity fans have shown their support for Green Light. "This is where we begin", Lorde tweeted yesterday. Lorde has not released an album since her debut Pure Heroine came out in 2013 (though she did "curate" the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1).

Lorde still managed to find time for celebrating with a star-studded NYC bash as she rang in the new decade!

Green Light, with its piano-led, trance-like chorus is a refreshing change in direction from Royals, the moody single that launched her to stardom.
