Tsonga to play Goffin in Rotterdam final

Tsonga to play Goffin in Rotterdam final

The 6th seed needed just 72 minutes to dismiss the 4th seed, never facing a break point and stealing Tomas' serve once in every set to book his place in the title match.

World No. 14 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won two tiebreaks against World No. 7 and tournament top seed Marin Cilic on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Rotterdam Open, where he'll face a familiar foe: Tomas Berdych.

The tired Goffin was coming off another finalist effort at Sofia the previous week, and on Monday will debut in the Top 10 on the ATP rankings.

Tsonga was beaten by Berdych in the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open in January, but gained revenge with a 6-3 6-4 victory on Saturday. In the second set, I had another mentality on court.

The third set saw Tsonga race into a five-game lead as he began to take control of the clash.

Goffin, meanwhile, made sure he would not go the same way as second seed Dominic Thiem had done in the quarter-final against the 25-year-old Herbert, who looks set to see his current rank of 109 climb after his run to the last four.

Berdych has now reached the semi-finals in Rotterdam for a fourth time after also finishing runner-up to Stan Wawrinka in 2015.

The French sixth seed, who lost the 2011 final to Robin Soderling, took just under two hours to beat Belgian third seed Goffin, playing his second final in as many weeks after losing in Sofia last Sunday to Grigor Dimitrov. David is the first Belgian in Rotterdam final after Christophe Rochus in 2006 and more importantly, this victory propels him into the Top 10 for the first time in his career!

But aside from that loss, Tsonga has lost only two other matches this year: One to Stan Wawrinka in the Australian Open quarterfinals, and a three-setter to wonderteen Alexander Zverev in Montpellier. "Of course I'm disappointed, but I played some good tennis".
