Danny Dyer taking 'short break' from EastEnders

The corporation was responding to a report in The Sun which suggested bosses were concerned about the actor looking "exhausted".

And Danny's break from the show will unlikely cause any issues for writers as his on-screen wife Kellie Bright - who plays pub landlady Linda Carter in the soap - is also enjoying some time off following the birth of her second child Gene in November.

The 39-year-old actor has worked non-stop on the long-running soap since he joined the programme in 2013 as the loveable landlord Mick Carter and bosses have now agreed to give him some well-deserved time off in order to spend time with his family.

The situation is said to be a "nightmare" for show bosses who write scripts months in advance, with Carter a central character.

The actor, known for his hard-man roles, recently made headlines when he discovered that he is descended from the likes of William the Conqueror, Edward III and Thomas Cromwell in an episode of the BBC's Who Do You Think You Are?

Back in 2015, Danny touched on his relationship with alcohol and producers as he wrote in his autobiography, The World According To Danny Dyer: 'I sometimes have a half at the end of the day in The Queen Vic, though they started putting TCP in the pumps to stop me drinking it!'

Today's news comes weeks after the father-of-three hinted that he may leave the soap when his contract is up in October.

Standard Online has contacted a representative for Dyer and EastEnders for comment. "It's been really rewarding but there's other stuff out there. I love everything about her". "I only had a very positive response". "I loved theatre and all that", he explained.

"When you're there 12, 13, or 15, 16 hours a day sometimes - that can be hard". "It can be really tough".

We're sending our best wishes to Danny for a speedy return.
