President Trump pushes 'America first' theme in speech at Boeing plant

Trump, who owns his own fleet of aircrafts, gushed over the 787-10.

"This area here seven years ago was swampland", Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg said during the news conference.

"We are now under contract for $170 million to help determine the capabilities of these complex military aircraft that serve the unique requirements of the President of the United States", Boeing spokesman Todd Blecher said in a statement at the time.

The airport is directly adjacent to the Boeing plant. Tim Scott, Rep. Mark Sanford, and Rep. Joe Wilson.

At the SC plant, Boeing is building the 787-10, the largest of three models of its high-tech, carbon-fiber composite Dreamliner.

And then it was showtime.

"Pieces will continue to be built around the globe in our supply chain, but the 787-10 will only fly out of North Charleston", Darrel Larson, the build integration leader for Boeing's 787-10 program, said during a previous interview.

Trump fired his first pick, retired Gen. Mike Flynn, after it became publicly known that Flynn had misled Vice President Mike Pence about details of a phone call made to the Russian ambassador in December.

Trump's appearance in SC followed a marathon news conference Thursday at which he forcefully defended his performance in the opening weeks of his presidency.

"Peace through strength. We build a military might so great, and we are going to do that, that none will dare to challenge it". Kellogg, who is serving as the acting national security adviser, traveled to SC with Trump aboard Air Force One.

However, Trump didn't linger on the past, quickly turning his attention to the 787-10. What an unbelievable piece of work'. "What an unbelievable piece of work".

"We are here to celebrate American engineering".

"That is one lovely airplane", said Donald Trump. "We want products made in America, made by American hands", Trump said.

"In the meantime, the president would be wise to focus on actually helping American workers, rather than eliminating health care and giving Wall Street free rein over the American economy", he said.

"When American workers win, America as a country wins, big league", the president concluded, promising to "fight for better paying jobs for the loyal citizens of our country".

He even ended his speech with praise of the company.

From nose to tail fin, numerous Boeing's components are made around the world: Wing tips in South Korea, the landing gear in England.

"It's going to be a lot different", he added, touting tax cuts for businesses and the middle class, a rolling back of "job-crushing" regulations, and a tougher line on trade.

"We're going to save billions and billions of dollars", Trump said. "Very shortly you will have a level playing field again".

On the campaign trail, Trump tapped a rich seam of unease among American workers.

"I have to say I love SC".

The aircraft was positioned behind Trump as he spoke.

Ironically, Boeing Dreamliner, which Trump declared a "great name", may be a case in point. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner followed shortly thereafter, and moments later the president could be seen in the cockpit, sitting in the pilot seat. Ivanka Trump blew kisses to the crowd.

POTUS seemed impressed with the plane construction, making an open-mouthed gape expression at an unidentified man and privately remarking that "it takes 3 and a half days to put it together", which a Boeing spokesman said refers to how long it takes to join all of the parts of the plane together.

Boeing stock hit an all-time high by midday trading.
