Russian Spy Ship Spotted Patrolling Close to the US East Coast

A Russian intelligence-gathering ship has been spotted roaming the waters off the East Coast

The ship, which according to a Fox News report is the SSV-175 Viktor Leonov, remained in worldwide waters while sailing south of Long Island, according to U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Jonathan Cinquegrana.

Three years ago, the Obama administration accused the Russians of violating the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty by developing and testing the prohibited cruise missile.

The U.S. Navy said it see this as yet another provocation from the Russian government, but not a direct threat. "It's a ship, but it's not the Great White fleet". It is home to 15 attack submarines.

When Iran test fires a ballistic missile, when North Korea conducts the next move of their bad activity, Russian Federation has spy ships 30 miles away from a U.S. Navy base in CT. Regardless, it is being closely shadowed by the US Coast Guard.

The Connecticut Congressman who represents the region of the state containing a key U.S. Navy base blasted the Trump Administration over news that a Russian spy ship was just off shore. The ship had been making its way up the east coast in the Atlantic Ocean, the official said, and was spotted off the coast of DE on Tuesday.

As a Russian intelligence vessel skirts the eastern tip of Long Island in worldwide waters in the midst of heightened national attention to U.S.

The appearance of the ship near the East Coast comes on the heels of over recent incidents including last week, when four Russian jets buzzed a U.S. Navy destroyer in the Black Sea on Friday, coming within 200 yards of USS Porter.

"While the United States and the alliance seek to engage with Russian Federation, we must at the same time defend ourselves if Russian Federation chooses to act contrary to worldwide law", Mr. Mattis said in Brussels.

"We respect freedom of navigation exercised by all nations beyond the territorial sea of a coastal state consistent with worldwide law", the Coast Guard said in a statement.

Russian warplanes have repeatedly engaged American vessels in the region since USA forces ramped up their presence in Eastern Europe as part of the NATO-led "Atlantic Resolve" security operation.

By Michael Wright Word that a Russian "spy ship" is patrolling in the Atlantic somewhere over the horizon south of Long Island was highlighted by U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin on Tuesday as part of what he called "increased aggression" by Russia and a "direct threat" to the United States and its interests.

US officials in Washington played down the presence of the Russian vessel, saying it was perfectly legal and not at all out of the ordinary. USA intelligence agencies have assessed that the missile became operational late previous year, possibly violating the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty on the development and testing of cruise missiles, The Associated Press reported.

Flynn resigned Monday, apologizing in his resignation letter for giving "incomplete information" to Vice President Mike Pence and other White House officials about his calls with Russia's ambassador to the U.S. On Tuesday, a Trump administration official said that Russian Federation had deployed a cruise missile, violating the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.

Overall, Trump made it clear that he would like to get along with Russia, and that taking a hard stance on Russian related issues now would keep him from doing "a deal" with Moscow in the future.
