Donald Trump Is on the Ropes

Stephen Miller Is a 'True Believer' Behind Core Trump Policies

Flynn resigned on Monday after revelations that he had discussed USA sanctions on Russia with the Russian ambassador to the United States before President Donald Trump took office.

Pence had gone on television to defend Flynn, saying Flynn had not discussed US sanctions in his calls with ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

The Kremlin spokesman on Wednesday denied reports of intercepted phone calls between Russian intelligence officials and members of Donald Trump's presidential campaign.

His departure upends Mr Trump's senior team after less than a month in office.

Flynn reportedly apologised on Monday to Pence, saying that he may have discussed the Obama administration's sanctions with Kislyak before Trump was sworn in.

"Our committee ought to receive any communications Flynn had with the Russian ambassador in whatever platform was used, whether it was by voice or text or any other means", Schiff said. At his joint press conference with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau earlier this week, for instance, reporters were limited to four questions and Mr. Trump delivered a brief statement full of platitudes about the quality of the USA relationship with Canada.

"It's all fake news", Trump told reporters at a press conference in the East Room of the White House on Thursday, calling the matter a "fabricated deal to make up for the loss of the Democrats". Trump said, who said the problem was Flynn's having misled Pence.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russian Federation would not be commenting on the resignation.

Democrats have called for an independent investigation into the chain of events involving the Flynn scandal, but Republicans have resisted doing so.

"What's at the core of this is an effort by some in the intelligence community to upend any positive relationship between the USA and Russia", Kucinich said. The White House has not said that Trump asked for Flynn's resignation. Kellogg had previously been appointed the National Security Council chief of staff and advised Trump during the campaign.

And leaks coming from within the White House, even about details as inconsequential as Trump watching television in a bathrobe, demonstrate the tension and in-fighting among Trump's closest advisers.

Texas Senator John Cornyn, the second-ranked Senate Republican leader, echoed calls for an investigation into Mr Flynn's ties to Russian Federation.

In addition to his discussions with the Russian ambassador, Flynn was also scrutinized for a 2015 trip he took to Russia during which he attended a banquet and sat next to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Republican senator Susan Collins of Maine said that if Mr Pence were misled, "I can't imagine he would have trust in Gen Flynn going forward". "We need to know who else within the White House is a current and ongoing risk to our national security".

Mr Trump, who was informed the same day, had concluded that his actions did not violate any law, according to Mr Spicer. Later, when asked by CNN's Jim Acosta to clarify the statement, the president responded, "The reporting is fake". This misinformation led Pence to go on national television in mid-January and deny allegations about Flynn's discussion of USA sanctions on Russian Federation.
