Verizon/Yahoo to share breach liability; Discount could be $300M

Another person familiar with the situation said the price cut was likely to be around $250 million, a figure that Bloomberg reported earlier on Wednesday.

The two companies had announced that the details of the data breach had slowed down the final details of the acquisition that will see Yahoo's operations being added to the largest carrier in the US, based on number of subscribers. According to sources, the price for Yahoo will go down by about $250 million, or a little more than 5% of the original $4.8 billion price tag.

"Verizon Communications Inc.is close to a renegotiated deal for Yahoo!" In September 2016, Yahoo announced that information on at least 500 million email accounts was stolen by "state-sponsored" hackers in 2014. Verizon has not disclosed sales for the entire year. While there was a lot of speculation about the attack and a lot of finger-pointing as well, there were reports that Verizon would seek a discount from Yahoo. But the deal was repeatedly delayed after revelations of record-breaking data breaches at Yahoo involving more than 1 billion accounts.

Yahoo and Verizon did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

But Verizon's plans for Yahoo ran aground after Yahoo disclosed a string of data breaches that analysts say are among history's largest.

Yahoo said in January that its $4.8 billion acquisition by Verizon would be pushed back to the second quarter from the first.

Verizon hopes that its new acquisition will help it move outside its traditional telecommunications role and into the mobile media and advertising world, while Yahoo simply seems eager for some relief from it's many problems.
