'Humans must merge with machine or we'll become REDUNDANT' warns Elon Musk

"This agreement is in an implementation of the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into the world's smartest city, and the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative", Al Tayer said in a statement.

In his speech, he compared how capabilities of AIs are far more advanced than humans. Computers can perform the same task at an impressive trillion bit per second.

In order to deal with the fast evolution of technology, humans need to train their brains accordingly to keep up with it. Humans are capable of communicating with their fingertips at the speed of about 10 bits per second.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk believes that humanity is quickly moving toward a man-machine hybridization, where humans are becoming cyborgs as they grow ever more dependent on technology to go about their daily lives. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has always been in the forefront of making claims and putting forward ideas that may appear to be radical, but do pose serious observations and reflections in hindsight. Neural Lace is an electronic mesh that fits the brain like a glove and had the ability to expand with it. He contended, "Some high bandwidth interface to the brain will be something that helps achieve a symbiosis between human and machine intelligence and maybe solves the control problem and the usefulness problem". That's why they must learn to merge with machines, according to Musk. Profits could exceed from $30 billion in 2020 to $45 billion in 2025 when robots completely dominated the labor force.

Musk thinks autonomy and artificial intelligence will incur stellar advancements moving forward, speaking at a Summit in Dubai Monday. The deal is part of Dubai government's efforts to make 25% of the vehicle trips autonomous by 2030.

According to the McKinsey Global Institute, jobs in hospitality and food services, manufacturing, agriculture, transportation and retail are the most likely to be replaced by robots. He said this scenario could result to 12 to 15 percent unemployment rate.

While this might be some way off, the Tesla boss said the more immediate threat is how AI, particularly autonomous cars, which his own firm is developing, will displace jobs.

"There will be fewer and fewer jobs that a robot can not do better", Musk said, according to Fast Company.

Musk has warned of the dangers of artificial intelligence numerous times in the past, but at least now it comes with the caveat that a grim Terminator/I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream-esque future could be avoidable, provided we choose to merge with the machines.
