Protest draws foes, fans to Planned Parenthood in Detroit

"Defunding Planned Parenthood is not about stripping health care from women, but protecting our most basic right".

Pro and anti-abortion campaigners have been facing off in the US. She said she's has been opposing Planned Parenthood for about 30 years."This is about protecting the most innocent among us".

When asked if he thought demonstrations were effective, Travis said "I don't believe they're that effective without other organizing, getting people out to vote".

While Planned Parenthood does perform abortions, state and federal funds are not allowed to be used to pay for them except in cases of rape or incest or when a woman's life is in danger. In St. Louis, thousands marched, many carrying pink signs that read, "I stand with Planned Parenthood".

While the broadcast networks are (finally) covering nationwide pro-life rallies against Planned Parenthood, they still have a long way to go: not one reported on the struggle between counter protesters and police as they guarded the pro-life marchers in Washington, D.C. last weekend. Abortions account for 3 percent of its services, according to the organization's annual report from October 1, 2013, to September 30, 2014.

The Chronicle confirms the numbers of protesters, saying that there may have been 300 counter-protesters at the event, and notes that the anti-abortion camp was similarly outnumbered at another rally outside a Planned Parenthood in Redwood City.

But the pro-life national movement came out in full force Saturday to pressure the president and Congress into moving forward with plans to strip funding from the women's health care organization.

Sue Thayer ran two Planned Parenthoods in Iowa and said each clinic had quotas, and staff knew how to approach patients with questions created to coax them toward abortion.

Protester Liz Harrington says standing in a peaceful protest for Planned Parenthood is necessary. Most of that comes through Medicaid reimbursements for preventive health services such as HIV testing and cancer screening, the organization says.

Bob Maegerlein, who also serves on the Rochester Advisory Council, said Planned Parenthood also provides important health care services for men.

Lee said she and other demonstrators are concerned that Planned Parenthood clinics harm women in addition to ending the lives of unborn children.

"I worked as a nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit, so I saw babies having babies", Lassman said.

"For a woman who has support around her it's hard enough".

"So, we want access to family planning and contraception and they want decreased abortions and so the answer is the same", Donadee said. "Then both sides would get a lot of what they want".
