At Least Four Wounded in Suspected Shooting Attack in Central Israeli City

"Five Israelis sustained light to moderate injuries after a Palestinian man opened fire in a crowded market", a police statement read.

Petah Tikva is in central Israel, just east of Tel Aviv.

The man was arrested uninjured while still carrying the gun, they added.

A fifth person was injured in the chaos following the shooting when a mob mistook him for the suspect.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said: "The terrorist was captured, we're trying to understand how he arrived in the area".

He was then pursued by civilians who succeeded in "neutralising" him.

In addition, a man about 40 was suffering from a stab to his upper body, according to MDA.

A number of Palestinians have launched street attacks over the past two years, attacking Israelis with shootings, stabbings and vehicle rammings.

The Palestinian Authority, denies this and says the attackers are acting out of their own frustration over Israeli occupation in settlements.
