Outpost bill heading for final vote in the Knesset

Following months of coalition wrangling, damning criticism from internal and global opposition and bleak warnings from legal experts, Israel on Monday legalized all West Bank outposts with sweeping legislation that will prevent future demolitions of settler homes built on private Palestinian land.

They discussed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and other issues, including the issue of the Iranian nuclear weapons.

In parliament on Monday, Shuli Mualem of the Jewish Home dedicated the law to the people evicted from Amona.

The Obama administration strongly condemned Israel's settlement programme, and some 6,000 new homes in the West Bank and east Jerusalem have been planned since the former president left office.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu experienced a "particularly moving moment" upon visiting the place where one of British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson's predecessors, Arthur Balfour, signed the "Balfour Declaration" nearly 100 years ago.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to coordinate the passage of the settlement regulation bill with the United States as right-wing lawmakers prepare for a Knesset vote late on Monday night that would approve the legislation.

The junior coalition Jewish Home party announced it would bring to parliament (Knesset) on Monday a bill that envisages the legalization of settlements. The organization also said the measure was "a slap in the face of the worldwide community".

The lengthy saga around Amona - including the evictions broadcast live on Israeli television - directly inspired the bill.

Netanyahu has been under huge pressure from his far right over the legislation, particularly from the education minister, Naftali Bennett.

Demolitions and removal of the buildings there began on Monday.

The settlements are considered illegal under global law, though Israel disputes this. As if there were any doubt that Israel's ongoing expropriation of Palestinian land is created to fragment Palestinians into ever-shrinking enclaves to preclude the establishment of a viable state.

"If adopted into law, it will have far-reaching legal consequences for Israel and greatly diminish the prospects for Arab-Israeli peace", he added.

The Trump administration's statement is not only a repudiation of these eleventh-hour realizations by outgoing administration; it is also a radical upending of USA policy opposing Israeli settlements dating back to the Johnson administration.

The White House statement was interpreted as a message to Netanyahu and his government that the U.S. administration meant to reserve its options. Bill allows Israel to declare private Palestinian land state property.

Netanyahu had on Sunday tried to delay the review of the bill, while coordinating with Trump ahead of their February 15 meeting, Israeli media reported.
