'Breaking Bad' cop killer Stefano Brizzi found dead in jail

Stefano Brizzi

CBS News reports that Stefano Brizzi died while in police custody just three months after being handed a life sentence for murdering British police officer Gordon Semple.

They said: "HMP Belmarsh prisoner Stefano Brizzi died in custody on Sunday February 5".

At the time of his death Brizzi was serving his sentence: life in prison with a minimum of 24 years served, per the Guardian.

The court heard how, after the murder, a drug-frenzied Brizzi dismembered and tried to dispose of his body in acid.

Brizzi was also accused of trying to eat some parts of the body by cooking it and biting into a rib.

Crystal meth addict Brizzi, 50, was found dead in his cell at HMP Belmarsh in south east London on Sunday.

A prison service spokesperson said there would be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.

During the trial past year the court heard how the defendant met his victim on gay dating app Grindr and arranged a "sleazy session" at his flat near London's Tate Modern art gallery on 1 April.

Police said the death was now being treated as "unexplained".

Pc Semple's long-term partner, Gary Meeks, reported him missing when he failed to return to their home in Dartford, Kent.

Prosecutor Crispin Aylet told the jury that Brizzi was in the process of strangling Semple when one of the guests showed up at his building, but was quickly turned away by Brizzi.

Neighbours complained about the stench coming from Brizzi's flat and eventually called police.

The former IT worker admitted to butchering PC Semple's body but denied murder, claiming the 59-year-old Met Police officer died accidentally during a "sex game gone wrong" when a dog leash he was wearing slipped.

Brizzi had moved to London in 2010 to take the next step in his IT career, however, his life began to spiral out of control when he was introduced to the "chemsex" scene.
