'What do you think, our country's so innocent?', asks Trump

President Trump is reiterating his desire to improve relations with Russian Federation and dismissing concerns that Vladimir Putin is a "killer," in a Fox News interview set to air Sunday before the Super Bowl.

"Well, many people have come out and said I'm right, you know that", Trump said.

Asked whether he respected Mr Putin, the USA president replied: "I do respect him. well I respect a lot of people".

Trump's response? American leaders kill a lot of people too. What do you think?

Trump denied that his top advisors did not know the stipulations of the executive order, which led to several protests at major airports.

On CNN's "State of the Union", Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) shared Sasse's view of Russian Federation, though he refused to criticize the president for his conflation of the United States and an authoritarian regime. As Trump said, "you have to stick up for your friends, right?" Tapper questioned the Kentucky Republican.

O'Reilly: "Do you? Why?" However that does not mean he gets on with them.

When will we hear from the rest of the Republicans in Congress about whether they think America is as morally bankrupt as Russian Federation?

"I believe that the ideals that America has stood for throughout our history represent the highest ideals of humankind", Pence said. "And no, I would not have characterized it that way".

McConnell said, "I don't think there is any equivalency between the way the Russians conduct themselves and the way the United States does". The Russians annexed Crimea, invaded Ukraine and messed around in our elections.

Pence also said Trump is showing a determination to "start afresh with Putin" and possibly cooperate on matters such as combating terrorism. Of course. Is the U.S.at all like Putin's regime? As he has in the past, Trump cited issues surrounding voter registration, not actual vote fraud, to defend his point. He went on to enumerate the differences: "The U.S. affirms freedom of speech; Putin is no friend of freedom of speech".

"Putin is an enemy of political dissent. Putin is an enemy of the free press; the USA celebrates free press".

"We will work with Ukraine, Russia, and all other parties involved to help them restore peace along the border", Trump said, according to a transcript of the phone call between him and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, The Hill reported.

In the interview Mr Trump signalled that US-Russia relations could be in line for a makeover, even after US intelligence agencies determined that Russia meddled in the US presidential campaign.

Trump: "He's running his country, and at least he's a leader".
