Trump call on refugees with Australia's Turnbull ended abruptly

The refugee deal at the centre of the conflict was signed on November 13 after Donald Trump had been elected as President.

Mr Trump tweeted on Thursday evening (New Zealand time) that he would personally study the deal which was agreed by the Obama administration at the end of past year. The Obama Administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from Australia.

Trump later tweeted that the deal was "dumb" and said he would be taking a second look at it. State Department insisted the refugee deal was still on.

It was yesterday reported Mr Trump accused the Prime Minister of seeking to export the "next Boston bombers" to the U.S., and complained that the deal was going to kill him politically, during a 25-minute phone call between the two leaders.

Trump criticised the Australian prime minister for trying to send the "next Boston bombers" to the United States. "And now the erratic Mister Trump has hinted via Twitter he might dud Mr Turnbull anyway".

However, the president told Mr Turnbull it was his intention to honour the refugee agreement but with extreme vetting.

The phone call was expected to last an hour, but Trump ended it suddenly after 25 minutes.

Sources told The Washington Post the conversation that took place on Saturday afternoon included a heated exchange about an existing refugee agreement.

Hours later, the U.S. president upped the stakes by publishing his confrontational tweet, an increasingly common tactic.

"The President is still considering whether or not he will move forward with this deal at this time".

Four days ago, the White House painted a rosy picture of a phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

Nevertheless, the conversation with Mr Pena Nieto hardly sounded warm and fuzzy.

U.S. officials said the president acted similarly in conversations with other nations, including Mexico, the Washington Post reported.

Jorge Ribas shared a GIF of the viral video of a man punching a kangaroo, with the captions: "Before you pick a fight with Australia remember they punch kangaroos in the face like it's no big deal". I think your military is scared. For Australia chose to set up these centers and then not to take care of them.

"When you hear about the tough phone calls I'm having, don't worry about it", Mr Trump said. "But he committed to stick to the deal that President Obama has done", Turnbull said in the radio interview.

Mr Trump has used the phrase "bad hombres" before.

John McCain of Arizona at a news conference following a meeting with Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite at the Presidential Palace in Vilnius, Lithuania, on December 29. When asked about the conversation, Turnbull said he would not comment but added: "I can assure you the relationship is very strong".
