We welcome you to the new and improved DC Sun News, or as we call it the Farraguter. We have tightened up several of the categorical options and expanded a few more departments to reflect DC all the better. All original content from the DC Sun News site, including comments and updates, are still in tact and remain on the site.
So why change? The original scope of DC Sun News reflected a larger focus and scope of the DC community. After deciding we had to expand our product due to an enormous expansion in viewership and demand for more local content we thought it would be a good time to move from the macro concept of DC to a more personal local appeal, thus giving it the new brand of Farraguter.
But why the name “Farraguter?” We decided that in our mission to provide a more local service to the community at large in DC we needed a name that was: A. not taken already, B. reflected our delicate balance of local news and humor, and C. reflected a central geography or community that was recognizable to those who live in the District. Of course, we wanted to focus the name on the Captiol or the Mall or even the Beltway, but DC is much bigger than any of those single parts.
Farragut Square of NW DC in the K St. district is a staple to the city. It houses numerous lobby shops and law firms where a majority of the political power battles are won or lost. Numerous people, young and old, flock to the city to work on K St. for several years and then move on to other parts of the country. In a city this transient, we decided to rename DC Sun News in honor of this contentious, yet unique location. Coupled with the central geographic nature of its location … ladies and gentleman, we present to you Farraguter.com. Enjoy.
